The Sound is Innocent

A playful and poetic journey into the dream world of recording studios, electronic music and experimental sound.

In her feature debut, Johana Ožvold guides viewers through a mysterious research institution. Its archives contain memories and fragments of key moments in the development of electronic music. The film thus oscillates between frequencies tuned into behind the Iron Curtain, the confrontational French avant-garde, and many pioneers of sound experiments. Key figures in today’s electronic music world are introduced: John Richards, an English musician and theorist of electronic and post-digital music who became famous as the founder of the Dirty Electronics platform; Steve Goodman aka Kode9, founder of Hyperdub; Francois Bonnet aka Kassel Jaeger, director of the GRM Institute of Sonology and Electroacoustic Music Research Institute; Julian Rohrhuber, professor of applied informatics and a musician who is involved in the development of the open-source programming language SuperCollider; Hannes Hoelzl and Alberto De Campo of UDK in Berlin.
